John Ov3rblast – The Spacing of the Spheres – SLR007 available on Sub-Label Recordings – White. Which is a Dub-Techno & Ambient Electronica Record Label.
The Spacing of the Spheres EP by John Ov3rblast’s provides a new departure through techno. Featuring deep moods from the north of England.
Firstly, ‘The Wheeling Star’. Which is a dark track. Above all, it’s soaring progressive techno groove is hypnotic. A rumbling, mechanised monster. Featuring snatches of rippling bass-line beneath a brooding cinematic synth riff.
Next, ‘A Stranger In A Strange Land’ and ‘Synchronicities’. These beat their way through ambient soundscapes. The former is a pulsing, percussive march through a celestial atmosphere. The latter, a dubby, ambient symphony. With tribal breakbeats and chants, this has a deep Balearic feel.
Moving on, ‘Bodinstrasse’. Which, is as deep as its namesake in Berlin. This is a shuffling percussive foundation supporting intricate arpeggiated chimes. Dotted with bells and synth stabs. This has a fragile beauty in the sound.
Next, are ‘Divination’ and ‘Subspaces’. These move purposefully through psychedelia. While drawing on science fiction. Both, are glitchy and spooky. With spectral voices and distant transmissions from afar. Including, downtempo beats from the depths of the machine.
Finally, we have ‘Reach For The Lasers’. This offers another deep impression. Including shimmering, staccato instruments. Together with pulsing, syncopated waves of moving sound. Coupled with deep percussion and beat less movements. This is a futuristic statement.
